Prof. Xilin Lu and Prof. Yong Yuan Attend the Inauguration Ceremony for the Newly Admitted Members of EASA

On April 15, 2023, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) held a grand inauguration ceremony for the new members who are formally admitted to the Academy in Salzburg, Austria. Prof. Xilin Lu and Prof. Yong Yuan were invited as the new EASA members in 2022, accompanied by Dean Ying Zhou, Prof. Peizhen Li and Dr. JiaoLong Zhang.

The European Academy of Sciences and Arts (http://www.euro-acad.eu/) is an international academic association with a broad reputation in the fields of sciences and the arts. There are 36 Nobel Prize winners among the over 2,000 members of the Academy. Six professors of CCE were elected as the members of EASA for their outstanding scientific achievements. Prof. Xilin Lu and Prof. Yong Yuan were elected in 2022. Prof. Junzhi Cui and Prof. Jie Li were elected in 2017 and 2021 respectively. Prof. Herbert Mang and Prof. Dimitri Beskos are also members of EASA.

Academician Xilin Lu has been dedicated to the research and teaching of structural seismic mitigation, basic theory of reinforced concrete structure and reinforcement and renovation of existing buildings for more than 40 years. He has presided over more than 60 national and provincial major projects. In 2017, he was awarded the Newmark Prize of the American Society of Civil Engineers; in 2019, he was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; in 2020, he was honored as a honorary life member of the International Federation of Structural Concrete; in 2021, he was elected as a member of the Engineering Academy of Japan; and in 2022, he was elected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Academician Yong Yuan has long been engaged in the basic theory and engineering application research on the dynamic disaster and service performance of underground engineering. His independently developed technology has solved the problems in major national projects such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Dalian Bay, and the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge, etc. He has won one national award for international scientific and technological cooperation, one grand prize and eight first prizes of scientific and technological awards of provincial-and-ministerial level and first-level-association. In 2022, he was elected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
