DEPARTMENT
  • DEPARTMENT OF STRUCTURL ENGINEERING
    Introduction

The DEPARTMENT OF STRUCTURL ENGINEERING is the largest department in Tongji University. The establishment of the department can be dated back to 1914. It is internationally renowned for its successful education and fruitful teaching and scientific research achievement. It includes three subdisciplines of civil engineering: structural engineering, civil engineering construction, and information technology in civil engineering. The major research areas cover large span steel structures, multi-storey and high-rise steel structures, light-weighted steel structures, steel tower, concrete and masonry structures, prestressed structure, steel-concrete composite structures, timber structures, etc.

  • DEPARTMENT OF GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING
    Introduction

The DEPARTMENT OF GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING was formally established in 1958. It includes two subdisciplines of civil engineering: tunneling and underground structural engineering, and geotechnical engineering, and the discipline of geological engineering. The major research areas cover theory of soft soil mechanics and deformation stability control, macro-micro soil mechanics and environmental geotechnical disasters, multi-physical coupling theory for geomaterials and disaster control, geological hazards prevention and reinforcement of weak rock mass, safety and risk control of underground engineering, urban underground space and underground engineering in rock masses, etc.

  • DEPARTMENT OF BRIDGE ENGINEERING
    Introduction

The DEPARTMENT OF BRIDGE ENGINEERING was formally established in 1987, which was the first department engaged in bridge engineering in China. The department is responsible for educating the students majoring in bridge engineering as one subdiscipline of civil engineering. The major research areas cover wind resistance of bridges and structures, earthquake resistance of bridges, bridge health monitoring and vibration control, concrete bridges, steel bridges, composite bridges, long-span bridges, rail transit bridges, bridge design methods and processes, bridge construction and information techniques, bridge assessment and strengthen, etc.

  • DEPARTMENT OF DISATER MITIGATION FOR STRUCTURES
    Introduction

The DEPARTMENT OF DISATER MITIGATION FOR STRUCTURES, formerly the Research Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction, was founded by unifying the Shanghai Research Institute of Engineering Structures and the Research Institute of Structural Theory of Tongji University in 1999. The department is responsible for educating the students majoring in disaster prevention and mitigation engineering & protective engineering as one subdiscipline of civil engineering. The major research areas cover earthquake resistance of engineering structures, fire resistance of concrete structures, wind resistance of engineering structures, structural assessment and retrofitting of existing structures, structural health monitoring, innovative material and structural systems, concrete structures, steel-concrete composite structures, masonry structures, timber structures, etc.

  • DEPARTMENT OF  HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING
    Introduction

The DEPARTMENT OF HYYRAULIC ENGINEERING discipline was traced back to 1930, and after long development and reconstruction, the department now has a complete set of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in the areas of harbor, waterway and offshore engineering, hydraulic structural engineering, hydrology and water resources, and hydraulic engineering. The current department was established in 2006. The major research areas cover harbor and coastal engineering, hydrology & water resources, hydraulic structure engineering, urban flood control and sponge city, etc.
