On May 25, 2023, the Global Engineering Innovation Forum and the Foreign Academicians Symposium and Certificate Presentation Ceremony of the Chinese Academy of Engineering were held in Beijing. Professor Dimitrios Beskos, who was elected as a Foreign Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2021, was invited to attend the conference. During the event, he received the Academician certificate from Director Li Xiaohong.
During the event, the 12 newly elected Foreign Academicians, in alignment with the forum's theme, delivered speeches and provided suggestions based on their respective fields of expertise. They collectively expressed their willingness to deepen cooperation and actively participate in China's scientific and technological innovation development. The main topics of discussion during this meeting included:How to achieve carbon emission targets through mechanisms that balance economic and social development? How to build digital twin cities to achieve urban sustainability? How to transition from resource-intensive and high-carbon manufacturing to decentralized and low-carbon manufacturing?
Dimitri E. Beskos has been dedicated to the research and teaching of computational mechanics for an extended period. He has taught at various institutions, including Cornell University in the United States, the University of Minnesota, Patras University in Greece, and Tongji University in China. He is a renowned international scholar in the field of structural dynamics and a pioneer in the boundary element method. He is an academician of the Academy of Athens, a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, and a fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Since September 2016, Professor Beskos has been appointed as a professor in the School of Civil Engineering at Tongji University.
