Two Tongji Civil Engineering Journals Listed in 2025 World First-Class Journals Catalogue

On September 12, the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, in collaboration with relevant research institutions, released the 2025 World First-Class Journals Catalogue at the opening of the 19th Pujiang Innovation Forum. Two journals from the College of Civil Engineering at Tongji UniversityEngineering Structure and Civil Engineering and Underground Spacehave been included in this prestigious list.

The catalogue evaluates journals worldwide based on a four-dimensional framework covering academic organization, academic leadership, academic influence, and social impact. It includes 6,132 scientific journals from 55 countries and regions, of which 353 are Chinese journals, accounting for 5.8% of the total.

Engineering Structure and Civil Engineering (ESCE) is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Higher Education Press, and Tongji University. As the first comprehensive civil engineering journal in China indexed in SCIE since 2017, ESCE is committed to publishing original and cutting-edge research, with a particular focus on cross-disciplinary frontiers that integrate civil engineering with information science, nanotechnology, bio/ecological studies, and socio-economic research.

Underground Space, established in 2016, publishes high-quality academic papers on the survey, planning, design, construction, operation, and management of underground space. In 2026, the journal achieved an impact factor of 9.5, ranking 2th among 137 international journals in the field of civil engineering, and is placed in Q1 of the Chinese Academy of Sciences journal rankings.

Both journals are managed under the Colleges Journal Center, which currently comprises nine English-language and three Chinese-language journals.. Through thesejournals, the center provides a dedicated publishing platform where scholarship in low-carbon, intelligent, and resilient infrastructure reaches researchers worldwide.
