From 30 to 31 May, 2020, Shanghai University League’s Forum for International Young Scholars — Civil Engineering Forum @ Tongji was held in the College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University. This forum, organized by College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, and co-sponsored by the Shanghai Educational Human Resource Exchange & Service Center and the Shanghai University Human Resource League, provides a platform for academic exchanges and exploration. Attendees included the deans, leaders and faculties of the college and departments, as well as over 40 young scholars from well-known universities and research institutes from home and abroad.
In the afternoon of May 30, Prof. Huanjun Jiang, the vice dean of CCE, chaired the opening ceremony. Prof. Xianzhong Zhao, dean of CCE, delivered a welcome speech and introduced the development of the college and civil engineering discipline. Prof. Herbert Mang, Chair Professor of Tongji University and Foreign Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, gave a keynote speech on “How much of the external loading of beams, arches, plates, and shells is carried by bending and/or torsion?”. In the parallel sessions, young scholars presented on multiple cutting-edged topics, such as high-performance structure, advanced analysis methods, multi-disaster control, climate change response, low-carbon new energy, smart construction and smart city.
The two-day forum gathered the wisdom of young scholars from home and abroad, promoted academic exchanges between participants in related disciplines, and enhanced mutual understanding between CCE and the young scholars.
