From May 22^nd to 26^th, upon the invitation of Prof. Li Jie, Yangtze River scholars of Tongji, Dr. Pol D. Spanos, member of US National Academy of Engineering, junior academician of the Greek Academy of Sciences, academician of Indian Academy of Sciences and civil engineering and mechanical engineering Lewis B. Ryon professional lecturer of Rice University visited Tongji University. The two parties conducted comprehensive and in-depth academic exchange.

Dr. Spanos gave a brilliant academic lecture namedPragmatic Methods for Probabilistic Nonlinear Mechanics to nearly 80 teachers and students from College of Civil Engineering.

During the visiting, Dr. Spanos visited the State Key Laboratory for Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering in our university. He was deeply impressed by the studies our university made in the field of disaster reduction in civil engineering and gave high praise.
