From Dec. 3rd to 5th, 2016, 29th KKHTCNN Symposium on Civil Engineering was held on HKUST Campus. More than 250 faculty members and students from Kyoto University, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Tongji University, Chulalongkorn University, Taiwan University and National University of Singapore joined the symposium.
The 29th KKHTCNN Symposium was hosted by Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, HKUST. Prof. Tim Chen, Dean of School of Engineering and Prof. Hong K Lo, Head of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering made the opening speech on the morning of Dec. 3rd, respectively. Prof. Yongsheng Li from Tongji University gave a keynote lecture, entitled “Developments and Challenges in Super-Large Diameter Shield Tunneling”, Prof. Rong-Her Chen from Taiwan University gave a keynote lecture entitled “Model Test and Numerical Analysis of Geocell Retaining Structures”.
Prof. Huanjun Jiang, Prof. Suwen Chen, Prof. Kaoshan Dai et al. from Tongji University and some faculty members from the other six universities chaired parallel sessions. Graduate students from seven universities made academic reports to exchange their research findings. This symposium was mainly concentrating on structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, construction engineering, materials engineering, transportation engineering and water resources engineering & environmental engineering. At last, Prof. Joseph H W Lee made the closing speech, and presented the Best Academic Award to the students.
