From Aug. 5th to 7th, 2014, 1st Joint Workshop on Building/Civil Engineering between Tongji University and Tokyo Institute of Technology was held in Campus, TIT. Prof. Chen Yiyi, Vice President of Tongji University and Prof. Huang Hongwei, Vice Dean of College of Civil Engineering led a delegation of 10 graduates including master candidates and PhD candidates to TIT to attend the workshop. (Another two Tongji Students who have already studied in TJT as exchange students also joined the workshop.) Prof. Ge Yaojun, Prof. Cao Shuyang, Prof. Chen Jun, associate Prof. Chen Suwen and Ms. Shen Jiajun from Office of International Cooperation and Alumni Affairs of CCE also attended the workshop.
The 1st Joint Workshop on Building/Civil Engineering between Tongji University and Tokyo Institute of Technology was hosted by TIT, at Midorigaoka Hall in Tokyo Tech O-okayama Campus. Prof. Chen Yiyi from Tongji university and Prof. Toru Takeuch from Tokyo Tech made speeches in the opening ceremony on the morning of Aug. 5th. Prof. Ge Yaojun and Prof. Kazuhiko Kasai gave keynote lectures respectively. During the two-day workshop, Prof. Cao Shuyang, Prof. Chen Jun, Prof. Shojiro Motoyui, Prof. Chen Suwen, Prof. Satoshi Yamada, Prof. Huang Hongwei and Prof. Hiroyasu Sakata respectively co-chaired report sessions. Eleven graduates from Department of Building Engineering, Research Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction, Department of Bridge Engineering in Tongji University and twelve graduates from Tokyo Tech made academic report to exchange their research findings. This workshop was mainly concentrating on structural engineering, bridge engineering, seismic isolation and vibration reduction technology. On the afternoon of Aug. 6th , Prof. Chen Yiyi from Tongji University and Prof. Akira Wada from Tokyo Tech made the closing speech, and presented the Best Academic Award to the students. Two speakers from each university received the award.
On Aug. 7th, professors and graduates from Tongji University visited five buildings in Tokyo Tech O-okayama Campus, and two buildings and two laboratories in Yokohama Campus. Professors and graduates from Tokyo Tech guided the delegation and gave detailed explanation. The contents involved structural isolation, energy dissipation, and building energy efficiency and so on, which broadened the horizon of students. After the campus tour, Prof. Chen Yiyi and Prof. Akira Wada conducted a detailed summary for the first joint workshop between two universities. The 2nd workshop will be held in Tongji University in 2015.
