Sponsored by International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (IAEG) and organized by Tongji University as well as the China National Group of IAEG, “International Symposium on Coastal Engineering Geology (ISCEG-Shanghai 2012)” was held in the Sino-French Center of Tongji University during September 20th to 21st, 2012. Nearly one hundred people from 14 countries attended this symposium. Carlos Delgado, President of IAEG, Victor Osipov, Winner of IAEG Hans Cloos Medal and Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences, Yaoru Lu from Tongji University, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Runqiu Huang, the Vice President of IAEG for Asia, Faquan Wu, IAEG Secretary General, Giorgio Lollino, Chairman of IAEG Congress 2014, Atsushi Yashima, Vice President of Japanese Geotechnical Society and Yupeng Yao, Geological Department Head of National Natural Science Fundation of China attended the syposium.
This successful symposium not only provides a platform for exchange of experience and research achievements but also has an important significance to promote the development of coastal engineering geology. The proceedings of the symposium entitled “New Frontiers in Engineering Geology and the Environment” was published by Springer formally.
