Prof. Phoon Kok Kwang, one of the Chair Professors of Kwang-Hua Education Foundation in CCE, Tongji, was elected as the member of Singapore Academy of Engineering recently.
Prof. Phoon Kok Kwang is the President’s Chair Professor of National University of Singapore(NUS) and Head of Center for Soft Ground Engineering of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in NUS. His research is focusing on risk and reliability analysis of geotechnical engineering and geotechnical disaster. Prof. Phoon Kok Kwang has published more than 200 academic papers and made more than 100 speeches in 64 cities all over the world. He is also editor of Reliability-Based Design in Geotechnical Engineering. He is Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES). Dr Phoon was bestowed the ASCE Norman Medal in 2005. It is the oldest and highest honour granted by ASCE, the largest civil engineering professional society in the world.
From July 2011 to November 2011, Prof. Phoon Kok Kwang was working in Tongji University as Kwang-Hua Chair Professor. Now, Mr. Zhang Dongming, one PhD student of Department of Geotechnical Engineering Department of CCE is studying under Prof. Phoon Kok Kwang’s supervision as an exchange student. Mr. Zhang will study in NUS for two years.
