On April 24^th, the Summary and Commendation Meeting of ASCE 2012 Mid-Pacific Conference was held in A101, Building of Civil Engineering. This is to honor all the involved teachers and students for their efforts and achievements and inspire more students to join this activity.  

The team of Tongji University was composed of 19 students from College of Civil Engineering, College of Environmental Science and Engineering, School of Transportation Engineering, and School of Materials Science and Engineering. The team of Tongji University got the championship in team total score (including first prize in Soil Mechanics, second prize in Thesis Writing, second prize in Traffic Engineering Design, and third prize in Steel Bridge Design.) UC Berkeley got the second prize in team total score.

The Tongji team students’ leader Guan zhaoyu was awarded the best leader in the international students division. The steel bridge group will take part in the final round. By the end of May, 6 students of the steel bridge group will complete in this high level competition of USA on behalf of Tongji University.

At this meeting, Dean of College of Civil Engineering, Prof. Gu Xianglin congratulated the students. He wished that more and more students can be excellent engineers with knowledge and ability. The team leader Guan zhaoyu, soil mechanics group leader Fu yuguang and steel bridge group leader Zhao Haoran introduced the preparing process and the competition of 2012 ASCE Conference. Then Director of Teaching Affairs Office, Prof. He Minjuan gave a speech. In 2006, Prof. He first proposed Students of CCE to join competitions in USA. After all these years, CCE students have made great progress, reflecting Tongji University’s aim of cultivating compound talents with creativity and international horizon. Finally, Vice Dean of CCE, Prof. Zhao Xianzhong gave a brief summary to the meeting.
