The course is open to all disciplines. The goal is to provide the participants with insight into the multi-objective and multi-disciplinary nature of disaster management, taking into account local, national, and international perspectives and cross-cutting themes. The learning will center on a contextual framework that addresses all parts of the disaster cycle through which the different professions can communicate.
Participants will study the core functions of disaster-cycle management, learn practical skills to use in disaster related projects and will be introduced to some of the current research in various fields associated with disaster management. The learning outcomes can be found on the course website.
The course is set in South Iceland and takes full advantage of the dynamic Icelandic nature through special classroom-on-wheels excursions. A maximum of 20 students will be admitted to the class and the prerequisite is a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Accommodation is provided.
