The Second Kwang-Hua World Forum on Performance-based Design Theory and Code Development for Civil and Structural Engineering was held by the national key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction and Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction of College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University in YiFu Building on Oct 16~18th, 2009. The conference was greatly supported and funded by Kwang-Hua Education Fund, The Board of National Natural Science Foundation of China and the national key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in the civil engineering.
In the past few years, the establishment of performance-based design theory and code development for civil and structural engineering has been the focus in the domestic and international engineering. The international forum held by Tongji University is aimed to invite relevant experts to discuss the problems concerning performance-based design and code development.
About 40 experts from 8 countries and regions attended the conference and discussed the performance-based design theory and application problem in the structural engineering, such as precast concrete structures, large and complex structures, bridges and tunnels and so on. After that, they visited the national key laboratory of civil engineering of our school. The forum is expected to promote the application and development of performance-based design theory in the civil engineering.
The Kwang-Hua World Forum with extensive topics and novel reports was well prepared and highly praised by the experts, who hoped it could continue to be held.
