    The expert panel of 6 led by Prof. Lv Xilin, vice director of State Key Laboratory for Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering and head of the Research Institute of Structural Engineering and Disaster Reduction of Tongji University arrived at Qingchuan County of Guangyuan City on the morning of 18th. Then the panel was divided into two groups: one consisted of Lv Xilin and Liu Wei who were responsible for assessing the moving-in residential buildings, the other consisted of Tang Yiqun, Ren Xiaosong and Li Xiang, led by prof. Li Jianzhong, vice director of Bridge Department and head of Bridge Seismic Research Lab, who were responsible for assessing the demolished buildings.

   On the same day, Lv Xilin’s group assessed 23 buildings and some of them were safe and suitable to reside in. Li Jianzhong’s group assessed 35 buildings in which 28 needed to be demolished immediately.

   Upon the demand of Construction Office of Guangyuan City, later that day Lv Xilin’s group returned to Guangyuan and Li Jiangzhong’s group stayed at Qingchuan County.

   On May 19th, Li Jiangzhong’s group assessed 75 buildings (about 150 thousand square meters) in which 36 needed to be demolished immediately and others needed further investigation. 6 of the buildings assessed by Lv Xilin’s group were houses in hospitals.

   On the early morning of 20th, Lv Xilin sent short message to the news reporter that they had conducted careful assessment because these buildings were significant for disaster relief and people’s living and they were responsible for giving proper assessment.

   Besides Lv Xilin and Li Jianzhong, other members in the expert panel of our university were Tang Yiqun, an expert in the field of geological engineering, Ren Xiaosong, an expert specialized in building aseismatic technology, Li Xiang, a building-detecting expert and Liu Wei, a lifeline engineering expert.
