On October 15^th, 2009 Shanghai International Conference on Technology of Architecture and Structure was held in Tongji University. This conference was jointly held by China Civil Engineering Association, Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering and Architectural Engineering Department of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Tongji University and China State Construction Engineering Corp. Pan Yunhe, Executive Vice-President of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Tan Qinglian, President of China Civil Engineering Association, J. Abel, Chairman of International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures (IASS) and Tongji University President Pei Gang attended the opening ceremony.

   In was learned that, during the two-day conference, dozens of experts from Britain, Japan, Canada, Korea, India, IASS, International Federation for Structural Concrete (FIB) discussed some theoretical questions like anti-quake architectural structure of super high-rise building, mechanism of collapsed building, shell technology and China architectural cultural renaissance with Chinese representatives. They also shared their research findings and technologies about the Expo Axis, Shanghai Center, National Stadium (Bird Nest), National Aquatics Center (the Water Cube) and some other public constructions. Then they visited Maritime Museum, Donghai Bridge, Yangshan Deepwater Port and National Civil Engineering Key Laboratory of Tongji University.
