“The third international forum on the new advances in the structural engineering” was put on in Hall C, Sino-French Center of our school on Nov 13~14^th. The conference was held by the periodical of Progress in Steel Building Structures, Engineering Research Center of Building Steel Education and Metal Structure Association of Shanghai. The topic was new advances in the research and application of steel structure. About 200 experts and engineers in the design, production, fabrication and research of steel structure attended the forum.

    Prof Li GuoQiang, Editor of Progress in Steel Building Structures and Director of Engineering Research Center of Building Steel Education, presided over the opening. Liu Yi, President of China Steel Structure Association, Yin MinDa, Director of Building Steel Structure Committee of China Construction Metal Structure Association, Prof Chen YiYi, Vice-Chancellor of Tongji University, Academician Shen ZhuYan, Director of Editorial of Progress in Steel Building Structures and Director of Academic Council of Engineering Research Center of Building Steel Structure Education, Prof Teng JingGuang, Editor of Progress in Structural Engineering and Associate Vice President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Cao Ping, President of Metal Structure Association, spoke one after another. About 20 invited speakers elaborated the latest information on change and development in steel structure according to computational theory, design methods, technology of production and fabrication, and engineering cases of civil and industrial high-rise buildings, light and large-span steel structure. In the two-day forum, the attendants communicated with experts and obtained valuable experiences.
