On April 10^th, The 6^th Underground Project in Soft Soils International Academic Conference was held in Tongji University. Prof. Sêco Pinto, Portuguese President of SSMGE, Prof. Richard KASTNER, President of TC28 Committee, ISSMGE from French Applied Technology Institution and other 200 experts in underground engineering field from Britain, Korea, Japan and China had an all-pervasive discussion on the progress and achievements of the geotechnical engineering technique applied in underground constructions. Huang Rong, director of Shanghai Construction and Traffic Management Committee and Executive Vice-president Li Yongsheng of our university were also present at the conference.

      In this 3-day conference, four invited theme lecture were organized, namely: TBM Construction Process, Shanghai Changjiang Tunnel Construction, Excavation in Soft Strata—from Theoretical Analysis to Decision-Making and Underground Construction in Rot Residues Strata. In addition, other 6 topics were prepared respectively. They were Theoretical Analysis and Numerical Simulation of Deep Excavation in Geotechnical Engineering Projects, Construction Methods of Geotechnical Engineering Projects, Foundation Treatment and Tunnel Ventilation, Geotechnical Engineering Cases, Safety of Geotechnical Engineering Projects, Risk Analysis, Disaster Control and Supervision, Geotechnical Engineering Physics and Numerical Simulation and Geotechnical Engineering Calculation and Prediction Methods.

     It was known that all together 112 theses were received in this conference.
