Mr. Jeme Tien Yow (1861-1919), known as the Father of China’s Modern Civil Engineering, is a pioneering figure in underground space engineering in China, who hosted the construction of China’s first railway tunnel in the late 19th century. The first Jeme Tien Yow Lecture (JTYL) witnessed the authorization from Jeme Tien Yow’s offspring and lectures by Jian-Min Zhang, an esteemed academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor at Tsinghua University, and some excellent young scholars. The lecture is organized by the journal of Underground Space, whose committee aims to establish the JTYL as a global journal-based lecturing platform.
