The 5th International Conference on Information Technology in Geo-Engineering (5th ICITG) was held in Golden, Colorado, USA from August 5 to 8, 2024. The conference, sponsored by Tongji University and organized by JTC2, the Joint Technical Committee of the Federation of International Geo-engineering Societies (FedIGS), brought together experts and scholars from 12 different countries to delve into topics such as geotechnical instruments, imaging technology, data-driven modeling, and machine learning.
During the conference, Prof. Hehua Zhu, Chairman of JTC2 and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering from Tongji University, China, delivered a keynote presentation. Esteemed members of the US National Academy of Engineering, the Singapore Academy of Engineering, and the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute gave special presentations. Additionally, 41 thematic presentations were organized, and members of JTC2, the digital representation of geotechnical data, met to advance the adoption of international standards.
The conference also decided that the 6th ICITG will take place in Oslo, Norway in 2026. The International Geotechnical Engineering Information Technology Conference is a series of JTC2 conferences initiated by Prof. Hehua Zhu, aimed at discussing the latest technology and application progress of information technology in geotechnical engineering. Tongji University has been actively involved in these conferences since it hosted the first one in 2010, with subsequent ones held in the UK, Portugal, and Singapore.
