The 6th TIT- Tongji Workshop was held in Tongji University

From May 31 to June 1, 2019, the 6th Joint Workshop for Building/Civil Engineering between Tokyo Tech & Tongji was successfully held in Tongji University. 17 teachers and students from Tokyo Institute of Technology and more than 20 teachers and students from Tongji University attended the workshop.

Prof. Suwen Chen, deputy head of the Department of Structural Engineering, Tongji University, chaired the opening ceremony. Prof. Huanjun Jiang, vice dean of the College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, and Prof. Toru Takeuchi from Tokyo Institute of Technology gave the welcome speech. After that, Prof. Satoshi Yamada from Tokyo Institute of Technology and Prof. Guoqiang Li from Tongji University gave keynote lectures entitled 'Development of Seismic Technology for Steel Buildings in Japan' and 'Development and Application of Structural Dampers for Seismic Disaster Mitigation of Buildings', respectively. During the two-day workshop, 10 graduate students and 2 young teachers from Tokyo Institute of Technology, 12 graduate students and 2 young teachers from Tongji University gave presentations and exchanged their opinions. 

Four graduate students won the Best Presentation Award.In the morning of June 2, students from Tokyo Institute of Technology and Tongji University visited State Key Laboratory of Disaster Reduction in Civil Engineering in Siping Campus of Tongji University.

The workshop was initiated by Prof. Yiyi Chen from Tongji University and Prof. Akira Wada from Tokyo Institute of Technology. It was held the first time in 2014 at Tokyo Institute of Technology, and is held annually by the two universities in turn in order to promote academic exchanges and scientific research cooperation.
